Stonebridge Ranch Hills Course Golf Committee

Meeting Call to Order:

Meeting of the Hills course golf committee was held on Thursday, June 2, at the Stonebridge Country Club.  The meeting was called to order at 6:00 pm by Chairman Steve Szewczyk.

 

Attendees:

Steve Szewczyk, Matt Mitchell, Robey Canaday, Mary Wood for Kristi Thiele (RLGA), Tracy Wallner (RLNGA), Bill Uhlemann for Denny Wiseman (SMGA), Dave Thomas (MGA), Trent Redden (At-Large), Larry Robicheaux (SMGA).

 

Minutes of Meeting:

The minutes from the April meeting were approved.

 

Golf Course Maintenance (Robey Canaday):

  • New sod is being installed in high traffic areas along cart paths to restore grass.  Work will continue into July.
  • Developing 2012 plans for reworking all greenside bunkers for holes 1 thru 18.
  • New sod is being installed on the back area of Chipping Green where sod had been removed to use as plugs to repair various greens on the course.
  • Ropes to control cart traffic will be installed by next week.  Ropes were removed at the request of PGA during Byron Nelson qualifier.
  • Various holes on rotational basis will be posted Cart Path Only to help protect the fairways during the hot weather.
  • Afternoon watering of greens will be started to maintain an adequate level of moisture.
  • MGA requested tree to be installed at No. 3 tee box (Blue Tee area).  MGA will fund tree purchase and club will plant tree.
  • RLGA requested status of No. 5 Green Tee box redo.  Robey comment that work will be completed in 3 weeks.
  • RLGA noted that No. 12 Green Tee box has mound in middle of teeing area and requested that teeing area be leveled.
  • Problems on the golf course during business hours should be reported directly to Robey Canaday or to the Club House.  Robey’s cell phone number is 210-410-6118.  Potential vandalism or unauthorized people on the golf course during non-business hours should be reported to the police.

 

Golf Rounds (Matt Mitchell):

  • On a YTD basis, the total number of rounds is up 12.5% from Plan and 24.8% from 2010.  Member rounds are up 14% from Plan and 25% from 2010.  Guest rounds are up 22% from Plan and 38% from 2010.  Outing rounds are down slightly from Plan but up 15% from 2010.  Golf Rounds for the past period (April 20 – May 17) are running nearly as planned and slightly lowered than same period in 2010.

 

Ranch Activities (Matt Mitchell):

  • Member tournaments scheduled for June – MGA Tri-Play on June 11, RLGA Member-Member on June 18, Parent / Junior Tournament on June 18.
  • Member tournaments scheduled for July – Firecracker Open on July 4, Men’s Club Championship on July 22-24, Ladies Club Championship on July 23-24.
  • Thursday Night “Throw Down” game, which started a couple of weeks ago, is getting good participation.  It is a gross score game with skins.  Approximately 15 to 18 players participate each week.
  • Ranch Club House renovation is proceeding as planned.  Renovation drawings have been sent out for contract bids.
  • Matt is working with Mayor Brian Loughmiller and City Inspection Office to have one inspector assigned to the renovation project.  A single inspector will help with contractor communications and expediting the project.
  • New mats have been installed on the driving range.  The new mats are great improvement over the old ones.
  • New Ghin handicap system is working well.  Most players are posting their scores with a few exceptions.  Will include reminder in next Hills Golf email that all players are responsible for posting their scores.  Handicap Committee is doing a spot check of scorecards and postings.

 

Misc Business:

  • MGA has purchase camera for Pro Shop.  Camera to be used for pictures at various tournaments.
  • New MGA website, MGAHills.com, now up and running.
  • MGA will be conducting a club membership survey to determine tournament formats most preferred.
  • MGA has proposed to subsidize cost of the Stonebridge Cup Tournament to renew member interest and participation.

 

New Business:

  • Don Rucker introduced new Food & Beverage Manager, Owen Foster.  Owen has long history in food industry.
